How this board is built

Every source is asked at the same moment for the same trade. Nothing here is an estimate of an estimate: each figure is either something this page ran against the chain, or is marked as the source’s own claim.

The adjustments, and why each one is defensible

Gas is subtracted

A route’s output is worth what is left after it is paid for. Gas is converted into the receive token and subtracted on every pair, so a cheap route and an expensive one are compared on the same column. A source’s own site usually shows the figure before gas, which is why ours can read lower than theirs.

Their declared fee is subtracted

Where a source states its own cut in its response, that cut comes off. It is read live from the answer, never pinned, because these move.

Their transaction is run, and the measured figure wins

Any source that hands back executable calldata has it eth_called here before ranking. If the transaction returns less than the quote claimed, the measured number is the one shown and the gap is stated on the strip.

Direct DEXs are asked too

The DEX routers people swap on directly (Uniswap V2, SushiSwap V3) are quoted as their own sources, measured against their own contracts — a V3 router by running its swap, a V2 pair from its reserves and its fixed 0.3% rule. They are compared, not executed here, and they usually lose to a routed trade; they are on the board so you can see that they were checked. The board shows the top few routes that fit the screen; the full list of who was asked and who answered is in the sources column.

A route that cannot execute cannot lead

It still appears, with its number and the reason. It simply may not take the top slot, because a figure nobody can execute is not a price.

Paying with a token

An ERC-20 has to be approved before a router may spend it. The first time you pay with a token through a given router, this page asks your wallet to approve that router for that token — an unlimited allowance by default, so later swaps need one signature, not two. Most wallets let you lower that cap on the approval prompt before you sign; if you do, the page simply asks again when a swap exceeds it. It waits for the approval to confirm, then simulates the swap and asks for the second signature. Until you have approved, a rival’s route reads unchecked rather than won’t run: a transaction that fails for want of your approval says nothing about their routing.

A source that reports no gas is not flattered

Where a source will not say what its route costs to run, nothing is subtracted and the strip says gas unread. Its figure is therefore better than it deserves to be, and the page says so rather than correcting it by a number we invented.

What is not done

No source is marked down for being a competitor, and no penalty is applied that this page cannot show its working for. Where a route is unverifiable, it is labelled unverifiable rather than quietly discounted.

The fee

Charged only out of the amount by which our own route beats the best rival, on the same net column the board ranks. If we do not beat them it is zero, so this board can never hand back less than the best route it found.
